The AI-Future Canon

In a few years, people and AI will live and work side by side everywhere. These 70 books, some stories and some serious forecasts, will prepare you for it. Read even a few and you will be ahead of most people.

How the books were chosen. Every book was put before a council of three elders, each of them an artificial mind: a historian who checks each prediction against what really happened, a builder who works on AI systems today, and a sage who studies how people and societies handle big change. Chosen from 156 books considered.

Read one book that shows you the machinery, one that shows you the money, and one story that makes you feel what it is like to live beside these things. Then trust what you can check over what sounds exciting.

I build these systems for a living, and the books that helped me most were not the ones that guessed the future hardest. They were the ones that explained how the thing works and who pays for it. Read one book about how models are trained, one about the people whose work and data feed them, and one novel that makes you feel it, and you will be ahead of most people arguing about this online.

No book here can tell you what happens next, and any book that claims to is selling something. Read a few from each side, then watch what schools, courts, insurers and employers actually do, because this technology usually reaches you as a form, a score, or a new rule rather than as a robot.
